Chapter 01
Introduction
Avini Systems is a technology company that creates sound holograms for motorsport and fighter jet simulation training. Simply put, the technology can reproduce the exact energy field of the vehicle through sound and vibrations and reconstruct it at the simulator facility.
I first started working for the company back in June 2022 as an intern. It was an opportunity for me to broaden my skillset and grow acquainted with the operations of a startup in the technological universe.
Chapter 02
The Intern
As an intern my job was to help around the company where I could, this was a very fulfilling opportunity since I got to learn firsthand from senior specialists in their respective fields. One day I could work on a hardware part design, the next I would be tasked to redline Non Disclosure Agreements or Statements of Work and finish with attending meetings on company governance and strategic planning. I became the jack of all trades in the company which soon led me to partake in the ground operations, and it definitely was my favorite part of the job.
My work was segmented between technical operations and business management. The technical aspect was great because we had to both work on the cars at the track and at the simulator facilities, to recreate the energy of the vehicle we first needed to equip it with proprietary sensors and make it run drills on very long tracks, most often at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida but they also sent me to Arkansas once. Once we acquired the data it was time for post-processing to create the energy models, that was done by our sound engineers and then they would send a team at the client's simulator facility to retrofit the necessary drivers and speaker components to the car's chassis. We would interface with the DiL's (Driver in the Loop) engineers and drivers to tune the system and ensure safety compliance with the facility's guidelines.
Chapter 03
Junior R&D engineer
It was always agreed with the company that I would want to pursue an academic diploma at some point and since I decided to enroll in an electronics and signal processing program in September 2025 I would not be able to take part in the operations as much as I used to. So my role shifted from on the ground operations to project management and engineering, more particularly, I am responsible for the B2C silo expansion and work on the software and hardware R&D.
I now actively participate in the company's strategic planning meetings, budget review meetings and strategic investment reviews. I learned to work together with our department directors to coordinate with design, engineering, financial and legal teams to ensure efficient operations across the different silos of the company. I was even able to personally negotiate an investment contract for the B2C project.
The works I prefer are the systems R&D sprints. I designed the new software infrastructure for the encrypted product distribution platform, website, B2C Avini Simulator engine and proprietary Digital Sound Processing apps we use for data treatment. Software is easily deployable from anywhere in the world which has been a great asset for me since I can work alongside my colleagues without needing a physical lab. I do look forward to being able to get involved with more analog electronics projects since I personally prefer hardware solutions to software when applicable.
